Lucian Bute arrived in Quebec in 2003. As Eric Lucas’ training partner during Lucas’ preparation for his rematch against Markus Beyer, he made a strong impression and InterBox decided to make him a star. Lucian’s popularity has constantly grown both in Quebec and on the world stage of boxing. The Romanian had a wonderfully successful career in amateur boxing. As a member of the Romanian national team, he took part in 250 fights, winning several national championships and two bronze medals in world championships (1998 in Argentina and 1999 in the U.S.).
Lucian’s dream came true on the evening of Friday, October 19, 2007 at Bell Centre. Thanks to a spectacular knockout against Alejandro Berrio, the Romanian was declared world champion of the IBF Super Middleweight division. Lucian Bute is the third champion in InterBox history after Eric Lucas and Leonard Dorin. A Canadian resident since 2007, Lucian Bute speaks excellent French and is improving his English. The world champion is a true example of determination, hard work and discipline. After winning his title, Lucian received several honors from many people, including Romanian President Traian Basescu, the National Assembly as well as the city of Montreal, which asked Lucian to sign the guest book.
Wishing to give back to his adopted community, Lucian Bute became the President of the InterBox Foundation. Lucian is also a spokesman for La Cage aux Sports restaurants.
Lucian completed his studies at the University of Galati in Romania. He graduated in physical education by obtaining the maximum score of 10 in his final exam. In December 2011, he passed his Canadian citizenship test. On March 26, 2012, Lucian Bute officially became a Canadian citizen.
